Oven-Baked Turkey & Cheese Sliders

This recipe was inspired by two separate recipes (one and two), both from Pinterest (follow me here). I took what I liked best from both and create a super recipe. So delicious we had them twice in one week. To quote the great Jo-Mom, “these are too easy not to make” or something like that.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 12 dinner rolls (or Hawaiian sweet rolls)
  • 1/2 pound deli meat, turkey or ham
  • 8 slices cheese, swiss or whatever else you like
  • 3 Tablespoons dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 teaspoons poppy seeds
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 small onion
First you’ll start buy mincing or grating your onion. I used the food processor and it turned out perfectly.
In a medium skillet, over medium heat, melt the butter and add the minced onion.
Let simmer for about a minute and then add the dijon mustard, Worcestershire and poppy seeds, and stir to combine.
Let this mixture simmer for several minutes until the sauce thickens.

While the sauce thickens, slice the entire group of rolls in half lengthwise.

Place the rolls in a 9×13 pan and spread about 3/4 of the onion mixture onto the bottom half of the rolls.

Next, layer with your deli meat of choice.

And top with cheese.

We did half pepper jack, half swiss.

Now top with the top half of the rolls and cover with the remaining onion mixture.

I mean, the onion mixture is what makes this recipe great. Buttery, flavorful, delicious.

All there’s left to do is cover with foil and bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes.

Until the cheese is nice and melted.

These are great leftover too. I’m curious if you could prepare these ahead of time and then bake them right before lunch, dinner, potluck? Let me know if you know.
