Cheddar Apple Croissant Sandwiches

So there’s this restaurant, well, tea room here in Tulsa called Dragonmoon Tea Room. It’s a great place to host baby showers or bridal luncheons, and it is an especially great place to get lunch! I went the other day with my friend Megan and she ordered this killer sandwich that I decided I needed to attempt to recreate at home. I couldn’t stop thinking about it… it’s a cheddar & apple sandwich on a croissant. Pretty much perfection.

I mentioned this quest to my friend Rebecca, who incidentally had also attempted to recreate this exact sandwich previously, so she generously shared her vast knowledge on the subject and together, we have created the perfect sandwich.

Here’s what you’ll need (for 2 sandwiches):

  • champagne Dijon mustard (or regular Dijon if that’s all you have)
  • white smoked cheddar cheese
  • 1 granny smith apple
  • 2 croissants

A very simple ingredient list for a very complex tasting sandwich. Start by slicing the apples as thin as you can. I didn’t peel the apple first, but if you’re into that, feel free. Well, actually you’ll want to start by preheating the oven to 350°, then slice the apples.

Next slice or shred the cheddar cheese, as much as you’d like. I like a lot of cheese…who doesn’t? Spread the Dijon mustard on each side of the croissant. I quickly ran out of champagne dijon, so I used regular on one side, champagne on the other.

Now, you simply layer the apples and cheese on each side of the croissant. I wanted the sandwich to end up with a double layer of apples & cheese.

Bake the sandwich for 8-10 minutes until the apples are slightly tender and the cheese is melted to perfection.

Assemble the sandwiches, slice and serve.

After eating this sandwich, try not to start putting cheddar cheese on everything apple related in the future. It’s hard, I crave it.
